MONCTON (N.B.) – Atlantic Lottery’s 2021-22 annual report and financial results show that the corporation delivered $438.1 million to the four Atlantic provinces.
“This past year was a real success story thanks to our dedicated employees and the support of our players, retailers and shareholders,” said President and CEO Patrick Daigle. “Atlantic Lottery is eager to meet the needs of our players by continuing to evolve into a modern, digital-focused company, and we are thrilled to see the results of that approach as we return a record profit to the four Atlantic Canadian provincial governments.”
In 2021-22, $227.9 million was delivered from the Retail and iLottery lines of business and $210.2 million was delivered from the Destination line of business. Atlantic Lottery returned $140.2 million to Nova Scotia; $139.3 million to New Brunswick; $135.1 million to Newfoundland and Labrador; and $23.5 million to Prince Edward Island. These profits are used to support essential services and programs, including health care, education and infrastructure.
Highlights from 2021-22 included all-time high Lotto Max sales; a 43 per cent increase in the previous record for PRO•LINE gross sales; and profit of $2.8 million at our Red Shores locations, marking the most profitable year in the racetrack and casino’s history.
The iLottery share of net profit increased to 18 per cent in 2021-22 from 16 per cent the previous year. Daigle noted that, despite the success of this business line, Atlantic Lottery is concerned about the presence of unregulated gambling sites that are not permitted to legally operate or advertise in Atlantic Canada under Canadian or provincial laws.
“Some Atlantic Canadians may not realize that Atlantic Lottery is the only 100 per cent legal and government-regulated provider of online gambling and sports-betting products in our region,” he said. “Unlike unregulated gambling sites, we are accountable to government regulators and all of our profit stays in Atlantic Canada, directly benefiting the communities in the four Atlantic provinces.”
Daigle said the corporation will continue to provide new digital games and experiences for players, while also exploring ways to enhance Atlantic Lottery’s retail and venue spaces.
“We look forward to continuing to explore ways to give our players access to exciting new
offerings, while also developing and improving existing features to encourage Healthy Play,” Daigle said. “We have worked hard to stay connected with our communities during the pandemic and we are always evolving to ensure we provide the quality experience our players expect.”
Atlantic Lottery is publicly owned by the four Atlantic provinces and returns 100 per cent of its profit to the four provincial governments. Founded in 1976, Atlantic Lottery has since returned more than $10 billion in total profit to the region.
