MONCTON (N.B.) – Bruce Rupert and Shelly Brewer of Lower Norton, N.B. had a difficult time believing they were the region’s newest millionaires following the Feb. 5, 2023 Lotto 6/49 draw.
“We wouldn’t believe it, we wouldn’t let ourselves believe it,” Brewer said. “When the Lottery called us back, we put the phone on speaker and we literally looked up at one another and we each had a tear in our eye.”
Rupert and Brewer are the latest New Brunswickers to win a $1-million prize on Lotto 6/49 this month, joining Clarence Gallant of Shediac, N.B.
“I’m super, super excited,” Brewer said. “It’s surreal right now, I can’t believe it but I can’t stop smiling. I am just so excited.”
Lotto 6/49 draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday with two multi-million jackpots available to be won. The classic jackpot is always set at $5 million and the Gold Ball jackpot starts at $10 million and can grow past $60 million. The Gold Ball draw guarantees a winning ticket on every draw, with the winner taking home $1 million if a white ball is drawn or the growing Gold Ball jackpot when a gold ball is drawn. A white ball was drawn on the Feb. 5 draw, leading to the couple’s $1-million win. The growing Gold Ball jackpot for the March 1, 2023 Lotto 6/49 draw is worth a whopping $38 million.
Rupert, a paramedic, and Brewer, who works in home health care, both plan to retire thanks to their big win. The couple has thought very little about how else they will spend the prize on themselves, but are elated to focus on helping to take care of their family members.
“It’s not just the feeling it gives us, but the feeling it gives them to help them,” Rupert said. “What you see in their eyes, you know what it means to them.”
Rupert purchased the couple’s winning ticket on alc.ca.
