ST. JOHN’S (N.L.) – Rosalind Skinner was more than excited to call her friends, Kimberley Chaulk and Kelli Bursey, to share the news that they had won $1 million on the Feb. 15 Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball draw.
“I was almost just as excited to find out what their reactions would be,” Skinner said. “Kelli’s the screamer and Kim’s the crier and I’m just like, ‘Yeah, we won!’”
The Mount Pearl, N.L. group who call themselves the Lotto Buddies first met when their children started playing hockey together and quickly became good friends. Eventually, they decided to buy lottery tickets together each week while on a summer camping trip.
“There was a lot of tears, but there was a lot of laughing through the tears at the same time,” Bursey said. “They were happy tears for sure.”
Lotto 6/49 draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday with two multi-million jackpots available to be won. The classic jackpot is always set at $5 million and the Gold Ball jackpot starts at $10 million and can grow past $60 million. The Gold Ball draw guarantees a winning ticket on every draw, with the winner taking home $1 million if a white ball is drawn or the growing Gold Ball jackpot when a gold ball is drawn. A white ball was drawn on the Feb. 15 draw, leading to the group’s $1-million win. The growing Gold Ball jackpot for the March 18, 2023 Lotto 6/49 draw is worth a whopping $48 million.
All three women say their win will allow them to have an enjoyable and worry-free retirement when the time comes. Other plans for the prize money include paying off bills, completing home renovations and travelling.
“We’re basically all on the same track with what we’re going to do,” Bursey said. “We can all breathe a sigh of relief now.”
Skinner purchased the group’s winning ticket at Marie’s Mini Mart in Mount Pearl, N.L. The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
