MONCTON (N.B.) – Retirement just got even sweeter for Marlena and Ernest Williams of Dieppe, N.B. after winning the top prize on the $2 Million Extreme Scratch’N Win ticket.

Originally from Jamaica, the couple made New Brunswick their new home four years ago after some time in Ontario. They wanted to enjoy everything the East Coast has to offer, but never knew just how well their retirement plan would turn out until they uncovered their ticket.

“I scratch it, and I’m looking and I see the number two, and I scratch again and I still see ‘two’ and I thought it was like $2,000,” Marlena said. “Then I kept scratching and I asked Ernest three or four times if this was for real, and he goes, ‘Well I’ll be damned.’”

Ernest immediately grabbed his phone to scan the ticket with the Atlantic Lottery mobile app and confirmed that the $2-million prize he and his wife were seeing was, in fact, real.

Atlantic Lottery’s $2 Million Extreme is a $20 Scratch’N Win ticket with a top prize of $2 million. The game launched in October 2021 and there is one top prize remaining.

The Williamses intend to use the prize money to help their family members and to ensure they enjoy a comfortable life in their retirement.

The couple also loves to travel and said their win will help cross off some bucket list trip destinations such as Vietnam, British Columbia and Panama, as well as allow for more trips to their home country of Jamaica to spend time with family, who they haven’t seen since before the COVID-19 pandemic began.

“We have to really get settled first, really like, is this for real?” Marlena said. “Then, once we see the money in the account maybe it will feel like reality.”

Ernest purchased the winning $2 Million Extreme ticket at Trinity Superstore in Moncton, N.B. The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
