MONCTON (N.B.) – Denise Berube of Saint-André, N.B. has played the same set of numbers on her Lotto 6/49 tickets for approximately 30 years. Over the course of those 30 years, many things changed, including the prizes available to be won on the game and Berube’s shift from retail to online play on alc.ca, but her numbers always remained the same. Her dedication finally paid off big with a Lotto 6/49 Classic Jackpot win worth $5 million on the Mar. 26, 2025 draw.

“I went on the website and saw I had a winner, and when I opened the ticket, I saw all those zeros, so I looked at the numbers and they were really my numbers, “Berube said. “I went to the winning numbers to confirm again that those were my numbers, and I was in shock. I said, ‘Oh my God, I won the lotto.’”

Lotto 6/49 draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday with two multi-million jackpots available to be won. The classic jackpot is always set at $5 million and the Gold Ball jackpot starts at $10 million and can grow past $60 million. The Gold Ball draw guarantees a winning ticket on every draw, with the winner taking home $1 million if a white ball is drawn or the growing Gold Ball jackpot when a gold ball is drawn.

Berube’s ticket matched all six of the Classic Draw numbers for the Mar. 26, 2025 draw, resulting in her $5-million jackpot win.

“I’ve been playing Lotto 6/49 for a very long time, always with the same numbers that I chose a long time ago because they each had a significance,” Berube said. “Some numbers I do still remember why I picked them, but a few others I don’t remember why. It’s been that long that I’ve been playing the same numbers.”

Among those significant numbers are a birthdate, a jersey number she wore in high school and the age at which she had dreamed of retiring.

While she didn’t retire at the age she had originally dreamed of, Berube did retire last summer and says her win will help her enjoy her retirement even more. She is looking forward to using her prize money to travel with her husband and her sisters, with a trip to Africa at the very top of her list.
