MONCTON (N.B.) – Annie Ouellet and her husband brought new meaning to the word “celebration” on their recent anniversary trip across New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Marking 20 years of marriage, the Matane, Q.C. couple made even more memories than expected when Ouellet won a Set for Life top prize.

“When my husband was gassing up, I went inside to validate the ticket and that’s when the worker said, ‘You’ve won the grand prize,’” Ouellet said. “I thought I just won a free ticket, so I thought I wasn’t understanding the worker properly but when my husband came in, we realized we did win the grand prize!”

Atlantic Lottery’s Set for Life is a $4 Scratch’N Win ticket that offers two options for the top prize. Winners can choose to receive $1,000 a week for 25 years, or a lump sum payment of $675,000. Ouellet opted to receive the lump sum payment.

The couple spent two days glamping in Shippagan, N.B. before touring through Wolfville and Lunenburg, N.S. Believing she had only won a free ticket, Ouellet held on to her winning Set for Life ticket for four days, validating it on the way home before leaving the region.

“It’s like a dream – a beautiful dream,” Ouellet said. “We are in a rush to get home now so we can announce it to our friends and family.”

Plans for their winnings include paying off their mortgage, purchasing a new truck and spoiling their two children.

“My daughter just bought a home, and my son is in school,” Ouellet said. “Now, we will be able to help them more.”

Ouellet purchased her winning Set for Life ticket at Cochrane’s Pharmasave in Wolfville, N.S. The seller will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
