MONCTON (N.B.) – Atlantic Lottery’s 2024-25 annual report highlights a year of strong financial results and continued commitment to making a game-changing impact in Atlantic Canada by supporting the region, promoting healthy play and making progress in reducing the impact of illegal gambling operators.

“Atlantic Lottery exists to benefit the people and places of Atlantic Canada,” said President and CEO Dallas McCready. “Each year, we deliver 100 per cent of our profit to the four Atlantic provinces. This funding supports essential services like health care, education and infrastructure that make a lasting difference across our region. It’s also important to note that 92 cents of every lottery dollar stays in our region. In addition to profit to provinces and funds paid to winners, our revenue is allocated to Atlantic Canadian retailers and operations, salaries and benefits, all of which benefit our local communities.”

In 2024-25, Atlantic Lottery returned $498.7 million in profit, an increase of $11.7 million over the previous year. This includes $243.1 million from the Destination line of business and $255.6 million from the Retail and iLottery lines of business. Broken down by province, the organization returned $165.1 million to Nova Scotia, $154.6 million to New Brunswick, $153.1 million to Newfoundland and Labrador and $25.9 million to Prince Edward Island. Atlantic Lottery awarded $461.2 million in prizes in 2024-25, an increase of nearly $14 million compared with the previous year.  

The increased profit in 2024-25 is largely the result of Atlantic Lottery’s focus on strengthening its online offerings and player experience. As a result, profit for the iLottery line of business increased by $25.9 million or 29 per cent over the previous year. This is balanced with ongoing efforts to promote and further strengthen Atlantic Lottery’s industry-leading healthy play tools. This year, nearly 114,000 voluntary healthy play tools were adopted by the player base, representing a 47 per cent increase over the previous year.

McCready said Atlantic Lottery will continue to promote online games that players can enjoy responsibly as part of the organization’s goal of tackling the illegal gambling market. He noted that approximately $200 million leaves the local economy each year instead of being returned to the Atlantic provinces, and Atlantic Lottery is committed to reducing the market share of these illegal and unregulated gaming sites.

“We’re continuing to respond to this challenge by enhancing our products to align with player preferences,” McCready said. “In 2024-25, we increased Atlantic Lottery’s market share of total online betting and gaming activity in the region to 34 per cent, up from 22 per cent in the previous year. We have an ambitious goal over the next five years to reach 50 per cent of the regional gaming market, which will ensure we keep even more dollars here in Atlantic Canada to help build stronger communities instead of benefiting private operators.”

In addition to Atlantic Lottery’s commitment to healthy play and returning profit to the Atlantic provinces, the organization also gives back by supporting diverse initiatives such as cultural celebrations, festivals, charitable programs and wellness-focused efforts. McCready said that Atlantic Lottery’s dedicated employees are vital to supporting community initiatives and fuelling the organization’s purpose-driven culture.

“In 2024-25, our employees logged more than 1,450 volunteer hours, which makes an incredible difference to the communities where we live and work,” he said. “I’m proud of our team’s passion and generosity. We have a shared commitment to making a meaningful impact where it matters most, and we’re excited to continue to celebrate that vibrant culture as we approach Atlantic Lottery’s 50^th anniversary in 2026.”

Atlantic Lottery is publicly owned by the four Atlantic provinces and returns 100 per cent of its profit to the four provincial governments. Founded in 1976, Atlantic Lottery has since returned more than $12.8 billion in total profit to the region.
