MONCTON (N.B.) – Pierre Landry of Cormier Village, N.B. rang in 2026 as a newly minted millionaire after winning a $1-million Maxmillions prize on the Dec. 30, 2025 Lotto Max draw.
When Landry checked his tickets on the morning of New Year's Eve, he was in complete disbelief.
“I was sitting on my chair for five minutes while my wife was sleeping, and finally I had to wake her,” Landry said. “I had the ticket in my hand and was just shaking it and she was saying, ‘What? What?’”
Lotto Max draws take place every Tuesday and Friday. Jackpots start at $10 million and grow up to $80 million or until won. Maxmillions are additional $1-million prizes that are drawn when the Lotto Max jackpot reaches $50 million.
Landry, who worked in a local fish smokehouse, has officially retired early thanks to his big win.
“I was working, but not now,” Laundry said. “I had another year to go if I didn’t win, but this feels terrific.”
Besides his early retirement, Landry and his wife say they will take their time to determine how to use most of their prize money. However, they are in the market for a motorhome and look forward to taking a leisurely trip across Canada to explore new places they have not yet visited.
Landry received his big cheque at Atlantic Lottery’s head office in Moncton, N.B. last week, with more than 20 family members along for the celebration.
“I’m so glad they were all here,” Landry said. “It feels good, and they all enjoyed it too.”
Landry purchased his winning ticket at Carrefour à Cap-Pelé in Cap-Pelé, N.B. The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
