CHARLOTTETOWN (P.E.I.) – Michael Collins of Montague, P.E.I. has managed to remain mostly calm, cool and collected since finding out he won a $1-million MAXMILLIONS prize on the May 1, 2026 Lotto Max draw.

“I’ve been pretty calm ever since the day it happened,” Collins said. “I’m getting a little more jittery I think now, it’s starting to sink in a little bit more now.”

Lotto Max draws take place every Tuesday and Friday. As of April 2026, Lotto Max gives players more, with jackpots that can now group up to $90 million and $100,000 MAXPLUS prizes available for every draw. Just like before, MAXMILLIONS prizes are also offered when the jackpot reaches or exceeds $50 million.

“It’s quite the feeling,” Collins said. “I’ve never experienced it before obviously and might not ever again and I’m going to enjoy it.”

Collins, who works in transportation, and also harvests potatoes each fall, said that his big win will allow him to slow down much earlier than he originally thought.

“I’m a good age for this to happen, not too young and not too old, since the window of retirement is usually right around the corner for someone my age,” Collins said. “I still work with some fellas who are 70 and I probably would have been one of those fellas too but now I’ll get to do that much earlier.”

While Collins plans to save most of his winnings to provide him with more freedom in the future, he also plans to share some with family and take a few bucket list trips to see his favourite sports teams.

Collins purchased his winning Lotto Max ticket at Circle K in Montague, P.E.I. The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
