HALIFAX (N.S.) – Trevor Mullins of Halifax, N.S. and his new wife, Amber, are planning the honeymoon of their dreams after winning the $1-million Gold Ball draw on Lotto 6/49.

“I thought, ‘Great, maybe we won a few thousand,’ and we were just planning our honeymoon,” Mullins said. “Then we figured out we had won the Gold Ball draw for $1 million and then Amber cried for four hours.”

Lotto 6/49 draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday with two multi-million jackpots available to be won. The classic jackpot is always set at $5 million and the Gold Ball jackpot starts at $10 million and can grow past $60 million. The Gold Ball draw guarantees a winning ticket on every draw, with the winner taking home $1 million if a white ball is drawn or the growing Gold Ball jackpot when a gold ball is drawn. A white ball was drawn on the Sept. 12 draw, leading to Mullins’ $1-million prize.

“I was excited because my whole life just changed,” Mullins said. “Every money problem I ever had went away.”

While trying to process the reality of their big win, Mullins said he and his wife couldn’t stop pacing around the house and had to go for a walk around the city while they absorbed the news.

“It couldn’t have come at a better time in my life,” Mullins said. “We just got done paying off our wedding and I wanted to start planning for my retirement soon.”

In addition to planning a honeymoon to a luxury resort and investing for retirement, Mullins plans to buy the yellow corvette he has always dreamed of. He said he is also excited to pay off student loans for both of his daughters and start an education fund for his grandson.

“I never would have had this opportunity before,” Mullins said. “All I want to do is make their lives a little bit easier and it’s a proud moment when you can do that for your kids.”

Mullins purchased his winning Lotto 6/49 ticket at the Inglis Street Circle K in Halifax, N.S. The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
