ST. JOHN’S (N.L.) – Gladys Cormier of Cape St. George, N.L. was in her pajamas and nearly ready for bed when she decided she would scratch the lottery tickets she had purchased earlier that day. Bed would have to wait, however, as Gladys was too excited to sleep after she revealed three matching symbols and realized she had won the top prize on Set for Life.

“I asked my husband to come see and he looked and said, ‘We won,’” Cormier said. “Then he scanned the ticket on his phone and it showed ‘Major Winner.’”

Atlantic Lottery’s Set for Life is a $4 Scratch’N Win ticket that offers two options for the top prize. Winners can choose to receive $1,000 a week for 25 years, or a lump sum payment of $675,000. Cormier will receive the lump sum payment.

Cormier is a regular player, and purchased a few tickets, including her winning Set for Life ticket, with the $10 prize she won on a previous Set for Life game.

Cormier and her husband are most excited to help out their daughter, son and grandchildren with the prize money. Eager to share the news, they called their daughter right away, who came over to see the winning ticket for herself.

“Our daughter, she was so excited,” Cormier said. “She was dancing with joy.”

Other plans for Cormier’s prize money include purchasing the new hearing aids she has needed for some time and taking a vacation this summer. While she is not a fan of airplanes, Cormier says there are many places in Newfoundland she hasn’t been yet and would love to visit more of her own province.

Cormier purchased her winning Set for Life ticket at Ozzie’s General Store in Cape St. George, N.L. The seller will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
