HALIFAX (N.S.) – Stephanie and Tyler Frank of Midville Branch, N.S. are casual lottery players, usually purchasing a ticket or two each month. After a recent $40 win on alc.ca, the couple decided to use the winnings to purchase three more Lotto Max tickets.
Tyler could hardly believe it when he checked his account and learned that one of those tickets paid off big with a $1-million win on Maxmillions.
“It just didn’t seem real when I got the email and there was no dollar amount, so I thought it was a free ticket,” Tyler said. “I signed in and didn’t see anything so I went to my messages, and I couldn’t believe it.”
Maxmillions are additional $1-million prizes that are drawn when the Lotto Max jackpot reaches $50 million.
“We’ve talked about winning many times over the years, just carrying on about what we’d do if we won a million dollars,” Tyler said. “We never thought that it would actually happen.”
Both Stephanie and Tyler called their mothers to share the news immediately, even though the reality of their win hadn’t fully sunk in yet.
“It almost doesn’t seem real still,” Tyler said. “I think when we look in the bank and see the million in there, that’s when it will hit us.”
Plans for their winnings include paying off their bills, renovations to their home and living a comfortable life without financial worry.
“We’re not really travel people,” Stephanie said. “We’re home bodies, so we want to make our home our palace.”
First on the list is a new roof, followed by endless possibilities to transform their house into their dream home.
