MONCTON (N.B.) – It was a day like any other for Charlotte Michaud and her husband Carol of Oromocto, N.B. as they had lunch at their favourite restaurant, Sunshine Diner. It was when Charlotte realized she had finished eating before her husband and purchased a Set for Life ticket to bide her time that everything changed, as that ticket ended up being a top-prize winner worth $675,000.

“My husband asked for a piece of raspberry pie, his favourite, and I said, ‘Well, I’m not going to sit here and watch you eat that pie,’” Michaud said. “So, I went and got a ticket.”

After Charlotte scratched her ticket, she showed her husband, but he didn’t think much of it as he continued to enjoy his raspberry pie.

“So, I took it back over and said, ‘I think I have a winning ticket, could you verify it for me?’” Michaud said. “He just froze at the screen, so I said, ‘Did I win or not?’ and he said, ‘Yes, I think so!’”

Atlantic Lottery’s Set for Life is a $4 Scratch’N Win ticket that offers two options for the top prize. Winners can choose to receive $1,000 a week for 25 years, or a lump sum payment of $675,000. Michaud will receive the lump sum payment.

Michaud and her husband knew the process to claim their prize money well, as the couple also took home a $500,000 Daily Grand second prize in 2018.

“Now, here we are again,” Michaud said. “I feel blessed, and we are eager to share with our family to give them a smile.”

The couple intends to share the prize money with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Regulars at the Sunshine diner, they also plan to treat the entire staff to dinner at a nice restaurant so they can celebrate together.

“We like them, and they like us,” Carol said, “We’re there nearly every day.”

“They say we’re their favourite customers,” Michaud added. “We’ll have fun because they’re fun people.”

Michaud purchased her winning Set for Life ticket at Sunshine Diner and Convenience in Fredericton, N.B. The seller will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
